Product: Synergy 1
Operating system: macOS
Overview
These steps install Synergy 1 on your Macs. The macOS versions Synergy 1 supports are listed in: Operating system and hardware requirements
What you need before installation
- An active Synergy 1 license
- The Synergy 1 installation file from the download page
- At least two computers
- Administrator privileges on all computers, to install Synergy 1 and allow its Accessibility access
- Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection (computers must be on the same network)
Step 1 - Copy your Synergy 1 serial key
Log in to your Synergy account and copy your serial key from the account page, under Serial key on your license. You'll need this during the installation process.
Step 2 - Download the latest version
Get the latest version of Synergy 1 from the download page.
There are two different installer files available for macOS, one for Apple Silicon (M-Series) and another for Intel.
To check what kind of processor your Mac has:
- Click the Apple logo in the menu bar (top left)
- Click About This Mac
- Note what it says after Chip or Processor
If it says M and a number, i.e. M1/M2, please use the Apple Silicon (M-Series) installer file
If it says "Intel", please use the Intel installer file
Save the installer DMG file to a convenient location on your computer.
Step 3 - Run the installer
Double-click the downloaded DMG file in your Downloads folder (or wherever you downloaded it to) and drag and drop Synergy to the Applications folder.
Step 4 - Allow Accessibility access
Open Synergy 1 from the Applications folder (the app is named Synergy). The first time it opens, macOS asks to let Synergy 1 control this computer using accessibility features:
- Click Open System Settings.
- Under Privacy & Security > Accessibility, turn on the switch next to Synergy.
- Enter your Mac user's password if macOS asks for it.
- Synergy 1 closes until it has this access, so open it again from the Applications folder.
If you missed the prompt, open System Settings > Privacy & Security > Accessibility yourself. Problems with this permission are covered in: Troubleshooting macOS Device Control and Data Access (previously Security & Privacy in Accessibility)
Step 5 - Enter your serial key
When Synergy 1 asks you to Enter your serial key, paste the serial key you copied in Step 1, then click OK, and click OK again on the message that thanks you for entering your serial key.
Step 6 - Name your computer
Synergy 1 names your computer after its macOS host name, shown next to This computer's name: in the main window. To change it, click the edit button beside the name, type the new name and press Return. Use only letters, numbers, hyphens, underscores or dots (e.g. Mac-One).
Step 7 - Repeat on other computers
Repeat steps 2 to 6 on all computers that will be part of your Synergy 1 setup.
Step 8 - Set up and configure Synergy 1
Once Synergy 1 is installed, you can connect your computers and share your peripherals. For the steps, see: How to configure Synergy 1
