Reinstalling after a full uninstall fixes many installation problems, especially after upgrading from an earlier version. Uninstalling keeps your settings, so remove them too if you want a fresh start.
Before uninstalling
Try resetting your settings first; it fixes most problems with an installation. If your problem is still there afterwards, continue with the steps below. For the reset steps, see: Resetting your settings and finding the settings files
Reinstall Synergy 1 or Synergy 3
- Uninstall it with the steps for your operating system below.
- Remove its settings files, so it starts fresh. This deletes your settings, such as your screen layout, so note them first. The steps:
- Synergy 3: Removing Synergy 3's settings files
- Synergy 1: Removing Synergy 1's settings files
- If Synergy 2 is also installed, uninstall it too.
- Restart your computer. Important: don't skip this before installing again.
- Install it again with the guide for your operating system:
- Windows: Installing on Windows
- macOS: Installing on macOS
- Linux: Installing on Linux
Switching between Synergy 1 and Synergy 3? Uninstall the one you have, then install the other. They install to the same place, so a computer has one or the other.
Uninstall steps
These steps keep your settings. To remove those as well: Removing the settings files
Windows 10/11
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed apps (on Windows 10, Apps & features)
- Look for your product on the list:
- Synergy 3: Synergy (64-bit)
- Synergy 1: Synergy
- Click ... next to it (on Windows 10, click its name)
- Click Uninstall
- Click Uninstall again to confirm
- Click Yes if Windows asks whether to allow the app to make changes to your device
The uninstaller closes the app for you if it's running.
If you see the error "The feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable", try the Microsoft troubleshooter: Fix problems that block programs from being installed or removed
If uninstalling fails with error 2502 or 2503, see: Installation issue on Windows: Error 2502 and 2503
macOS

- Synergy 3: click Exit
- Synergy 1: click Quit
- Open the Finder
- Go to the Applications folder
- Drag Synergy to the Trash
If you get a message that it can't be moved to the Trash because it is open, quit it from the menu bar icon again. If the message stays, open the Terminal app and run the following command:
sudo rm -rf /Applications/Synergy.app/

Use your package manager to uninstall the app. The package is called synergy; on Arch Linux and Manjaro, its name depends on your product, as given under Pacman below.
APT (Ubuntu and Debian)
Open the Terminal app and run the command:
sudo apt remove synergy
DNF (Fedora and Red Hat)
If you have edited the DNF config file to stop Fedora downgrading Synergy 3, first remove exclude=synergy under [main]. The edit is described in: Prevent Fedora from downgrading Synergy 3
Open the Terminal app and run the command:
sudo dnf remove synergy
Pacman (Arch Linux and Manjaro)
Open the Terminal app and run the command for your product:
