What you need to install Synergy 1
- An active Synergy 1 license
- The installation file from the download page
- At least two computers, each with their own monitor
- Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection (computers must be on the same network)
- Admin permissions for your computers, to install Synergy 1
The Windows versions Synergy 1 supports are listed in: Operating system and hardware requirements
Step 1 - Download Synergy 1
Get the latest version of Synergy 1 from the download page. Sign in, and the page offers the installer for your license.
Step 2 - Copy your license serial key
Log in to your Synergy account and copy your license key from the account page. You'll need this during the installation process.
Tip: There is a copy button next to the serial key, under Serial key on your license.
Step 3 - Run the installer
Double-click the downloaded MSI file in your Downloads folder (or wherever you downloaded it to), and follow the installer:
- Click Next, accept the license agreement, and click Next again.
- Keep the default install folder and click Next, then click Install.
- Click Yes when Windows asks "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?"
- Click Finish. With Run Synergy when finished ticked, Synergy 1 opens.
The installer adds the Windows firewall exceptions Synergy 1 needs.
Step 4 - Activate Synergy 1
When Synergy 1 first opens, it asks you to Enter your serial key. Paste the license key you copied in Step 2, then click OK, and click OK again on the message that thanks you for entering your serial key.
Step 5 - Name your computer
Synergy 1 names your computer after its Windows computer name, shown next to This computer's name: in the main window. To change it, click the edit button beside the name, type the new name and press Enter. No spaces or special characters, but dashes, underscores and dots will work (eg. WindowsOne, Windows-One, Windows_One, ...)
Step 6 - Repeat on other computers
Repeat steps 1 to 5 on all computers that will be part of your Synergy 1 setup.
Step 7 - Set up and configure Synergy 1
Once Synergy 1 is installed, you can connect your computers and share your peripherals. For the steps, see: How to configure Synergy 1
Synergy 1 checks for updates when it starts. To turn that off, open Edit > Preferences and clear Check for updates on startup.
