Product: Synergy 1
Operating system: Linux
Overview
These steps install Synergy 1 on your Linux computers. The distributions Synergy 1 supports are listed in: Operating system and hardware requirements
What you need before installation
- An active Synergy 1 license
- The Synergy 1 installation file from the download page
- At least two computers
- Administrator privileges on all computers to install and add firewall exceptions
- Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection (computers must be on the same network)
Step 1 - Copy your Synergy 1 serial key
Log in to your Synergy account and copy your serial key from the account page, under Serial key on your license. You'll need this during the installation process.
Step 2 - Download the latest version
Get the latest version of Synergy 1 from the download page. Save the installer file for your distribution and its version to a convenient location on your computer.
Step 3 - Run the installer
Open the Terminal and run the command for your distribution, using the name of the file you downloaded:
- Ubuntu, Debian and Raspberry Pi OS:
sudo apt install ~/Downloads/[.deb file name] - Fedora and Red Hat:
sudo dnf install ~/Downloads/[.rpm file name] - openSUSE:
sudo zypper install ~/Downloads/[.rpm file name] - Arch Linux and Manjaro:
sudo pacman -U ~/Downloads/[.pkg.tar.zst file name] - Flatpak:
sudo flatpak install ~/Downloads/[.flatpak file name]
Synergy 1 and Synergy 3 use the same package name on Linux, so installing Synergy 1 replaces Synergy 3 if it is installed on the same computer.
Step 4 - Enter your serial key
Open Synergy 1. When it asks you to Enter your serial key, paste the serial key you copied in Step 1, then click OK, and click OK again on the message that thanks you for entering your serial key.
Step 5 - Name your computer
Synergy 1 names your computer after its host name, shown next to This computer's name: in the main window. To change it, click the edit button beside the name, type the new name and press Enter. Use only letters, numbers, hyphens, underscores or dots (e.g. Linux-One).
Step 6 - Repeat on other computers
Repeat steps 2 to 5 on all computers that will be part of your Synergy 1 setup.
Step 7 - Set up and configure Synergy 1
Once Synergy 1 is installed, you can connect your computers and share your peripherals. For the steps, see: How to configure Synergy 1
On a Wayland desktop, Synergy 1 uses the desktop portal for input, so your desktop asks you to allow it to share or control the keyboard and mouse. Wayland support is covered in: Wayland support on Linux
