Written for Synergy 3 (v3.7.2) and Synergy 1 (v1.21.4), checked 3 October 2026.
Add a hotkey that restarts the connection when you need a quick reset, for example:
- If you have an error, such as the clipboard not syncing
- You often change monitor layouts, which need a restart to take effect
On Linux, hotkeys may not work yet if the server computer uses Wayland. More details: Hotkeys not working on Wayland
Synergy 3
Hotkeys are included in Synergy 3 Plus, Synergy 3 Max and Synergy Business. On Synergy 3 Lite, Hotkey configuration shows an Upgrade for Hotkeys button instead.
- Open Synergy 3 and go to Keyboard & mouse.
- Click the arrow next to Hotkey configuration.
- Click Create hotkey.
- Click Record keystroke and press a key or key combination (for example Ctrl+Alt+L).
- Click Create action.
- Under Action type, choose Restart connection.
- Click Save.
Synergy 1
- On the server computer, open Synergy 1 and click Configure Server.
- Go to the Hotkeys tab.
- Click the New button under the hotkeys list.
- In the Hotkey window, click the keystroke() button, press a key or key combination (for example Ctrl+Alt+L) and click OK.
- Select your new hotkey in the list, then click the New button under the actions list. The Configure Action window opens.
- Choose Restart the server.
- Click OK in the Configure Action window, then OK in the Server Configuration window. If Synergy 1 is running, it restarts with the new hotkey.
